Below are a few tips to assist you in this process.
If you don’t know an artist, entertainer, or have a suitable activity in mind, see the Artists & Performers section of this Web site for contacts.
Some artists and crafters may want you to display their work for an extended period of time; others may be fine with just First Friday or the weekend. Make sure the arrangement is clear before finalizing your plans.
If work is displayed and available for sale beyond First Friday, you and the artist/crafter can decide whether your business gets a commission for helping to generate sales.
Make sure your space can accommodate the art or artist, musician or activity. Plan the location in advance.
Plan ahead for two months of First Fridays. After the 1st month, plan for the next two. Since at least 30 establishments are expected to participate, don’t wait until the last minute to book your entertainment or activity from the list provided.
View the art, listen to the music, know what activity or groups you are booking. Ask for a Web site where the activity is described or displayed. Plan to meet the artist/musician/performer beforehand. Make sure you are comfortable with what you are hosting.
You can tip the musician/entertainer at your location or pass around a tip hat during the performance as a “thank you.”
Seek out more artists/musicians/activities. Distribute your business card; get the word out that you are looking to host activities.
